The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office, today April 26, 2019 secured the conviction of Gilbert Akue (alias Barry Morgan) at the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State presided over by Justice M. G.Umar.

Akue was convicted on a one count charge of fraudulently impersonating the identity of one Barry Morgan on a dating site in order to hoodwinked his victims.

Upon arraignment, Akue pleaded guilty to the charge.  Based on his plea, the prosecution counsel, Immaculate Elody prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendant as contained in the plea bargain agreement.

However, the defence counsel, O.V. Ekamre pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as her client was a first time offender who has shown remorse and has promised never to go back to the crime .

Justice M.G.Umar thereafter sentenced the accused to two (2) months imprisonment without an option of fine.

The defendant is also to forfeit all assets traced and recovered from him to the victim through the Federal government of Nigeria as proceeds of crime.

BREAKING: No Majority for Any Options After MPs' Votes

Calls for a customs union with the EU were rejected by 272 to 264 votes while a call for a referendum to endorse any deal was rejected by 295 to 268 votes.

Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay said the results strengthened ministers' view their deal was "the best option".

The results capped a day of drama in which Prime Minister Theresa May promised to stand down as PM if her deal was passed.

The prime minister told a meeting of Tory MPs she would leave office earlier than planned if it guaranteed Parliament's backing for her withdrawal agreement with the EU.

Her announcement prompted a number of Tory opponents of her deal to signal their backing but the Democratic Unionists suggested they would continue to oppose the agreement.

MPs hoped Wednesday's unprecedented series of "indicative votes" would help break the parliamentary deadlock over Brexit.

The failure to identify a clear way forward led to angry exchanges in the Commons with critics of the process saying it had been "an abject failure".

Solskjaer Parks The Bus, Just Like Mou - LvG

Louis van Gaal is not convinced that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has changed Manchester United's style since taking over from Jose Mourinho, and believes he is guilty of "parking the bus" just like his predecessor.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revitalised United's form and morale since taking over on a caretaker basis following Mourinho's departure in December.

Although consecutive defeats to Arsenal in the Premier League and Wolves in the FA Cup have dented their campaign, United have got themselves back into the top-four race and are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League under their former striker.

"The coach after me [Mourinho] changed to park-the-bus tactics and played on the counter," he told BBC Sport.

"Now there is another coach who parks the bus and plays on the counter. The main difference between Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is that Solskjaer is winning.

"I am not there but there does look to be a change and the atmosphere seems to be better. It is also true that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has changed Paul Pogba's position and put him into an area where he is much more important.

"But the way Manchester United are playing now is not the way Ferguson played. It is defensive, counter-attacking football. If you like it, you like it. If you think it is more exciting than my boring attacking, OK. But it is not my truth."

Chelsea Offer Hudson-Odoi Counselling After Racist Abuse

Chelsea have offered counselling to teenage winger Callum Hudson-Odoi after he was subjected to racist abuse twice in 11 days.

The club reported that the 18-year-old heard monkey chants during Chelsea's Europa League win at Dynamo Kiev on 14 March, which Uefa is now investigating.

Callum Hudson-Odoi was one of several England players abused during the 5-1 win over Montenegro on Monday.

England boss Gareth Southgate has also been in touch with the player.

After the Montenegro win, which was Callum Hudson-Odoi's full England debut, the winger described the abuse (also targeting Danny Rose and Raheem Sterling) as "unacceptable".

The youngster is understood to be faring well since then but will be offered a range of support if he needs it.
